Kay Bernstein’s Berlin path shaped Hertha even after his death. On Sunday the members will elect a new club boss. There is a big favorite.
The members of second division soccer team Hertha BSC will elect a successor to President Kay Bernstein, who died suddenly in January, this Sunday (11 a.m.). At the meeting in the City Cube at Messe Berlin, Bernstein’s deputy Fabian Drescher is the favorite. The lawyer has been running the association on an interim basis since January.
The members decide how and whether the Berlin path proclaimed by Bernstein should continue. The entrepreneurs Uwe Dinnebier and Stepan Timoshin, the ex-Hertha professional Wolfgang Sidka and the restaurateur Olaf Brandt are also running for the office.
The report from managing director Tom Herrich on Hertha’s financial situation is also eagerly awaited. The club was able to significantly reduce its losses and liabilities last season, but the situation remains tense. As things currently stand, a bond worth 40 million euros will be due next year. Hertha investor 777 Partners is in financial difficulties.
