Tobias‘s story somehow surprised me so much that I decided I would rather spend some of today alone. Just to think about it. He wasn’t a normal person! I should have been happy about it, but I was just pondering the logic of coincidence.
I knew it was a coincidence. But I also knew that I had a fashion show commitment here before I could return.
“Tobias, so much has happened. I think I’ll go somewhere dark. In the meantime, you can go swimming for a bit. Maybe you’ll still find the two thieving mermaids.”
He shook his head.
“I’d rather stay with you. You may be strong, but you still need a protector, one who is simply by your side.”
I gave up.
“But only if I don’t notice you. It’s really gotten a bit too much for me.”
He nodded.
Together we looked for a quiet place for me. If possible in industrial and port areas. But it wasn’t that easy.
As we were traveling, I suddenly spotted two men in a private harbor. They only had a red boat with them, which looked suspiciously like a rubber boat in shape, but at least it had an engine.
“Hey, these could be your guys,” I nudged Tobias.
“Oh yes! But they wave at us! Then they can hardly have stolen my wallet.”
We went to meet them anyway. Me in a combat-ready position in case they ran away.
“Hey, my friend here is missing something!” I start provocatively.
The two of them laughed, just as I had just done when I was still surprised.
“Yes, your wallet fell out. We wanted to bring it to you. Who is this pretty woman here?”
I growled angrily. I wasn’t a werewolf, not that there were any, as far as I know.
“Amelia is non-binary. She doesn’t like being called a woman and she’s a little stressed right now because… I told her everything. And she has a new tattoo, her first one.”
“You have what?” the two of them were angry in unison.
I helped him out.
“Well, first I revealed to him, not entirely voluntarily, that I was a vampire. And when I look at you like that, I’m craving mermaid blood again.”
I didn’t know where this sarcastic lie came from either. I guess I really needed to take a nap.
I wasn’t normally like that.
The two of them looked at each other a little more perplexed than before, then laughed even louder.
“I think Amelia needs some sleep,” it was Tobias, who was a spoilsport and played my mother. “Do you know a suitable place? She is really a vampire, she likes it dark and quiet, and is also a tramp.”
“Yes, she already said that she was one. We also met one once, but that was… shorter. The man he drank from only barely survived. But only one “For a few days, then he died, it was just a beggar from the street. In any case, Amelia seems almost peaceful in comparison. And we know a fishing hut that we can easily reach by boat.”
I wasn’t entirely convinced to trust them. But finally I did and got on the boat. It wasn’t that I minded normal water, but I did find it scary. After all, I had three men in the boat whose element was water. My element was blood.
“If I fall out, you might have to save me,” I said to be on the safe side.
