You have to take a shovel and dig

On November 11, just on Lāčplēš day, the musical story of freedom struggle “Mūžības scartie”, based on a cycle of poems of the same name by Aleksander Čak, which is included in the cultural canon of Latvia, spoke to the audience listen twice again at the “Daile” Music House.

Its authors – composer Jānis Lūsēns, actor Mārtiņš Vilsons and musician Evija Mundeciema – told this story for the first time on 18 November three years ago, and since then it has to be included in the Latvian School Bag program.

“The authors of this story have decorated the texts of Cak in a strong, loving, emotional and artistic language, which allows us to live with and understand the bravery of the Latvian riflemen and the high price they paid for an independent state to create, which they also paid for our freedom and well-being,” said the application for the story of the concert. I met the composer Jānis Lūsēnas shortly before the two performance at the “Daile” Music Hall, where “Mūžības skartie” has not been performed until now.

J. Lucien: In fact, “Touched by Eternity” is a traveling show in which Mārtiņš Vilsons reads the most important fragments from this poem by Aleksandr Čak and Evia and I create a musical atmosphere in which the -my songs pretending to be a beautiful vocal performance, but rather than singing the rifles from Latvia in the trenches or in other pastimes at the moment.

Jānis, I can only appreciate your modesty when I talk about your music, because after the first appearance it is revealed again from time to time and goes to the people there the different shows. I have a feeling that poetry also plays a big part in her enjoyment. How do you choose lyrics for your songs?

Of course, when it comes to “Touched by Eternity”, everything is based on the wonderful poetry of Alexander Chak, but the choice of good poetry goes through all my work.
