The initiative contributed to the development of the infrastructure of electric charging stations in the emirate, bringing the number to more than 700 charging stations by the end of August last year, and it is expected to reach 1,000 stations by 2025.

PwC Global Consulting reported that there is a large number of electric vehicles in Dubai on the road, as the number of vehicles reached 25,929 electric vehicles in the emirate by the end of December 2023.

Dubai has introduced the “Clean Energy Strategy 2050” and the “Green Mobility Strategy 2030”, including the Green Charger Initiative for electric vehicles to expand the electric vehicle charging network and use to promote pure electric and hybrid cars across Dubai.

The agency explained that Dubai aims to have more than 42,000 electric cars on its roads by 2030, noting that electricity sales from electric vehicle charging stations in Dubai are subject to a specific tariff that has been set by the government of the emirate.

Granted by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, private developers or stakeholders are not allowed to set their own fees for charging electric vehicles.
