“That was a completely absurd performance,” said ex-tennis star Andrea Petkovic afterwards Sky.
In order to reach the final, Krawietz and Pütz had to accept some setbacks. So the two conceded an early break to 2:3 in the set, and a little later to 2:5 – the first set was therefore lost.

Deflected match point
The second set also started less well: Krawietz and Pütz had to give up their first service game. Shortly afterwards they managed the rebreak to make it 2-2. The decisive factor was the break to 5:3, paving the way to win the set.
In the third set, which was only played to the tenth point, the two Germans fended off a match point late before converting their own first match point to make it 11:9 and thus win.
“At the beginning we received a lesson, then we increased our level,” said Pütz. “It was a very close match. Of course we are very happy,” said Krawietz.
