The tool follows in the footsteps of AI-generated art features recently introduced by Microsoft in its Office suite. It marks an important evolution in the way in which we can illustrate our various works.
Smooth integration into the Google Docs environment
The new image generator is accessible via the menu “Insert” from Google Docs, under the option “Help me create an image“. This feature opens a sidebar where users can describe the desired image and select a specific art style, like “Photography” or “Sketch“.
The tool also gives the possibility of choosing different formats (square, horizontal or vertical) to best adapt to the layout of the document. A very interesting option allows you to create full-width cover images for documents without pagination.

Cutting-edge technology for quality results
The image generator uses Image 3the latest version of Google’s image generation model. According to the company, this version promises “better details, richer lighting and fewer distracting artifacts” compared to previous models. Technical improvement that should help users create more polished and professional visuals directly in their documents.
Availability and access conditions
It should be noted that this new feature is not accessible to all Google Docs users. It is reserved for paid Workspace accounts benefiting from the Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium or Google One AI Premium add-ons.
Its deployment began on November 15 for domains in “rapid release” and could take up to 15 days to appear. Domains in “scheduled release” will see a gradual deployment from December 16, 2024.

One step closer to integrating AI into productivity
The introduction of this image generator in Google Docs is part of a broader trend of integrating AI into productivity tools. Last year, Google had already introduced a slide builder powered by Duet AI in Google Slides.
This development illustrates Google’s desire to remain competitive against competitors like Microsoft, who have also integrated generative AI functions into their office suites. The objective is clearly to offer users ever more powerful and intuitive tools to improve their productivity and creativity.
Thus, the integration of the AI image generator into Google Docs is a milestone in the evolution of content creation tools. It opens the door to new possibilities for users, while raising questions about the future of visual creation and its increasing automation.
