The DP World Tour is coming to Salzburg

After a long break, a DP Worldtour (formerly European Tour) tournament will take place again in Austria in 2025. In addition to the four majors and
In addition to the five so-called Rolex events, the DP World Tour tournament calendar includes around 40 events per year.

Ben Cowen, Chief Tournament and Operations Manager of the DP World Tour said: “We are excited to be returning to Austria next May for the first time in four years to play the Austrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand. The tournament at Gut Altentann Golf Club in Salzburg will be part of our European Swing, one of five Global Swings that make up the first phase of our 2025 global schedule. We are very grateful for SalzburgerLand’s support and commitment.”

The Jack Nicklaus-designed GC Gut Altentann golf course, not far from the city of Salzburg, will host the Austrian Alpine Open from May 29 to June 1, 2025 with prize money of $2 million.

Exactly 25 years ago, the first tournament took place in Altentann on the then newly built Jack Nicklaus course. The first Austrian Open was held there in October 1990. The German golf star Bernhard Langer secured his first title in a play-off against the American Lanny Wadkins.

The Austrian Open was held a total of three times at GC Gut Altentann, and numerous national and international amateur championships were also held on the championship course, which underlines the importance of this course for Austrian golf. The square recently underwent a redesign, using Jack Nicklaus’ original plans.

The owner of the Gut Altentann golf club, Johannes Goess-Saurau: “We have invested a lot in the quality of Altentann in recent years and see the return of the DP World Tour as a reward for this. We are pleased that we are able to present a major event again 25 years after the first tour event in Austria on the Jack Nicklaus course in Henndorf/Salzburg.”

Golf Enterprises Gmbh, based in Salzburg, acts as the organizer. The company’s CEO is Edwin Weindorfer, who, among other things, was responsible for the comeback of the DP World Tour 20 years ago. At that time, the Fontana Golf Club was the venue and Golf Austria celebrated the first victory of an Austrian on the DP World Tour with Markus Brier’s triumph in 2006. Edwin Weindorfer was also involved in numerous DP World Tour events at the Diamond Country Club. During the last three years, Weindorfer hosted two DP World Tour events and a Ladies European Tour tournament in Mallorca. For the SAustrian Alpine Open presented by SalzburgerLand project, Golf Enterprises Gmbh is relying on proven talent: Ali Al Khaffaf, who has been responsible for almost all international professional golf events in Austria for around two decades, will also be responsible for the project in Salzburg 2025.

A great experience for all golf fans.
