In Saturday’s only match in the Men’s All-Svenskan, Visby had a long-awaited victory when they beat successful newcomers Hässelby 5-3 away from home. After being second last in the table before the round, Visby showed great will and took an important three-pointer.
Visby opened the match strongly and took the lead in the first period after two goals by Emil Hedström. The first came after just over nine minutes, assisted by Markus Jovic. Shortly afterwards, Hedström extended the score to 2–0 in a five-on-four game, played by Ville Hirvisuo. Hässelby, who have otherwise impressed this season, found it difficult to get a grip on the game in the opening 20 minutes.
– It’s sad, I don’t think we bid up in the first two periods. We are far too kind and don’t even dare to take the ball, commented Hässelby’s Patrik Häggkvist after the match on InnebandyTV’s broadcast.
The second period offered significantly more goals and a higher intensity. Visby increased to 3–0 through Emil Hedström, who thus completed his hat-trick. Hässelby then responded with two quick goals through Marcus Ackefelt and Charlie Parastatidis, which reduced the score to 2–3. But Visby proved to be the stronger team and quickly responded through John Pettersson and Jesper Eliasson, which gave a comfortable 5-2 lead before the final period.
The third period was characterized by a Hässelby that tried to find its way back into the match. Charlie Parastatidis scored his second goal of the day to reduce the score to 3-5, but the home team got no closer than that. Despite Hässelby pressing and taking out the goalkeeper in the final minutes, Visby held on and could celebrate their first victory in four games.
Jesper Eliasson, who scored the last goal for Visby, paid tribute to both his teammates and the visiting fans:
– It was a very nice victory. There was a lot of momentum and it was probably a fun match to watch. It’s great that they go along on a trip like this. They gave us energy and we thanked them right after, Eliasson said as confetti rained down on the players after the final whistle.
Hässelby’s team captain was all the more self-critical:
– The first two periods are really bad, we don’t dare to play. Third is better, but it’s not enough, summed up Häggkvist disappointedly.
The victory means that Visby climbs up from the next jumbo place, while Hässelby misses the chance to consolidate its place in the top tier of the table.
