After almost four years Donald Trump returned to the White House. Almost two months before his return to the US presidency, he was received by Joe Biden as part of the smooth transition that the outgoing president committed to.
“Mr. President, Donald, I want to congratulate you on your election. I look forward to having a smooth transition. We will provide you with what you need for that,” Joe Biden initially said. For his part, Donald Trump responded: “Thank you Joe. Politics is hard and often not a pretty world, but today it is. The transition will be as smooth as possible, and I really appreciate that, Joe.”.
According to announcements from the White House, during the meeting between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the top priorities for the domestic and foreign policy of the USA will be discussed.
The changes that Trump met in the Oval Office
The Oval Office is likely to look familiar to Donald Trump, with a few differences. Joe Biden kept the gold curtains that Trump had in his office, which had been used by President Bill Clinton in the past.
The Resolute Desk is the same one used by Trump and other past presidents. But the flags of the branches of the US military that Trump had placed behind the desk, where Biden installed an American flag, are no longer there.
Biden also removed the portrait of Andrew Jackson that Trump had brought to honor the populist president, as well as a bust of Winston Churchill.
Trump’s message to Republicans
Donald Trump told House Republicans in a closed session that he is done picking from their ranks for his incoming administration, according to a lawmaker involved.
“He said he’d like to get more, but he’s not going to do that because it would threaten our majority,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) told reporters afterward.
Trump has so far given appointments to two House Republicans: Reps. Elise Stefanik (New York) and Michael Waltz (Florida). The battle for control of the House of Representatives remains too close to call, but the Republican Party expects to retain a narrow majority.
