XXVI Spartakiada for Youth with Physical Disabilities – sport, joy and competition without barriers!

On Friday, November 15, 2024, the “Michał” Sports Complex in Siemianowice Śląskie became a place of unique sports events. Over 150 players from Siemianowice Śląskie, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Bytom, Chorzów, Świętochłowice and Katowice met to take part in the 26th Spartakiad of Youth with Physical Disabilities.

The event was organized by the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center “Pszczelnik” and the Siemianowice Association for Aid to Special Needs Children “Empire of the Sun”, with the support of the Social Policy Department of the Siemianowice Śląskie City Hall and volunteers from the Secondary School No. 2. J. Matejki in Siemianowice Śląskie. The Spartakiada was also co-financed by the Municipal Program for the Prevention and Solving of Alcohol-related Problems and Counteracting Drug Addiction, and was accompanied by an addiction prevention campaign.

The Spartakiad was officially opened by Beata Gałecka, 2nd Deputy Mayor of Siemianowice Śląskie, accompanied by Katarzyna Jończyk, Head of the Social Policy Department, Krzysztof Nos, Head of the Culture and Sports Department, Jan Komander, Deputy Director of MOSiR “Pszczelnik”, and Sabina Miland from the Social Policy Department.

Participants competed in numerous individual competitions, such as:

  • sprint run,
  • wheelchair race,
  • slalom with a hockey stick,
  • throwing darts at a target and a bag at a target.

There were also team competitions, including: in an obstacle course, tug of war, football tournament or standing long jump.

The aim of the Spartakiada was not only to promote physical activity and improve motor skills, but also to build confidence in one’s own abilities, make new friends and enjoy the joy of competing together.

The best competitors in individual competitions received medals and diplomas, and each participant was awarded a participation medal. The teams were provided with sports equipment, which will certainly be used to further develop their sports passions.

The awards were presented by Katarzyna Jończyk and Magdalena Rutkowska, Head of the Occupational Therapy Workshops “Empire of the Sun”.
