The Chancay port complex is a large-scale project led by the Chinese state-owned Cosco Shipping Company. A total investment of US$3.4 billion is planned to build 15 ports to connect Latin America and Asia.

The president Boluarte presented the project as a potential “neural center” that will link Latin America with Asiastrengthening commercial links between both continents. It could create 8,000 jobs and generate $4.5 billion in economic activity annually.
As reported by Cosco Shipping, Chancay is a natural deep-water port, has four docks and has an advantageous geographical location and fluid logistical connectivity.

In fact, It could also be used by the mining ventures of the Argentine Puna, since it is about 36 hours away by different route.
With the planned investment of US$3.4 billion is estimated to build 15 more docks, offices, logistics services and a 2-kilometer-long tunnel to transport cargo.

The largest port in Latin America
According to estimates by the Peruvian government, the location of the port of Chancay makes it possible to reduce to 28 the average 40 days that cargo ships transporting goods from Peru to Asia currently take.
Another benefit is the deep draft of the Bay of Chancay, which allows it to receive TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit) ships, the largest in the world with capacity up to 24 thousand containers. This will allow larger freight shipments to be sent at a lower cost.
