Apple phones are becoming popular in our country (a iPhone 15 turned out to be the undisputed leader in global sales). Especially since new functions are constantly being added – the next batch of new features will reach us iOS 18.2.
The list of settings and small functions that improve the use of iPhone is very long, However, I have selected the 7 most interesting ones that can be easily missed.
Tapping on the back, ie the back of the iPhone as an additional button
It’s one of those features that you either love or hate. Personally, I don’t use “pats on the back” on my iPhone, but if this method of communication suits you, you get easy access to two actions that can be assigned for double and triple taps behind the smartphone, respectively. In this way, we get two “hidden” buttons with useful, frequently used functions.
To enable the Back Tap function, you need to open one by one Settings – Touch – Tap Backand then select the function we are interested in Double tap and Triple tap.
Options include flashlight, screen lock, circuit lock, volume control, screenshot, and opening the control center or camera app.
Incoming calls in full screen
When we use an iPhone and someone calls us, a small panel appears at the top of the screen, which allows us to answer the call, but does not cover much of the content that is currently displayed. This solution is very convenient, but if we prefer a classic full-screen connection panel that is literally impossible to lose, we can choose it in the settings.
To do this, we need to choose in a row Options – Applications – Phone – Incoming. The banner is a small rectangle displayed at the top of the screen, and the full screen takes up the entire display when someone contacts us.
Controlled data transfer
Data limits are getting higher, and it is almost no problem to use e-mail, address or browse websites using mobile data transmission (LTE or 5G). However, if we have a relatively small package as part of our contract or for other reasons we need to use data sparingly, this can be easily done.
To get to the options we are interested in, we have to select one by one Settings – Mobile network – Key number (or another SIM card of our choice for data transfer) – Data mode. Standard settings are enough for most users, but choosing “Low data transfer” will save mobile data by stopping some activities if we are not connected to WiFi. It is worth remembering to connect to local networks (even the one at home) whenever possible.
No more clutter on your home screen
When we install a new application on our iPhone, it automatically goes to the start screen. However, this is not always beneficial, and in the case of a larger number of applications that we use relatively infrequently, it could introduce unnecessary chaos. And there is only one small change in the settings, thanks to which new applications will only appear in the library. Of course, there is nothing stopping you from manually placing them on the home screen.
We go through accordingly Options – Home screen and app library and then we choose Application library only.
Visibility of notification content on the lock screen
There is no correct solution here, but it is worth knowing the possible options and changing the privacy of the lock screen according to our needs. As a rule, the less visible without identity verification, the greater our security, because we avoid the risk of revealing sensitive information to strangers. However, we can also decide that all notifications will be visible in their full form.

To access these options we have to choose Settings – Notifications – Overview and select the appropriate option. “Always” will also display the notification content on the lock screen.
Focus mode can literally change your life
Apple smartphones now offer extensive tools to manage incoming calls so we can avoid distractions or unwanted sounds. This will be useful both at work and in our free time, when we need a moment of relaxation.
Focus mode offers much more than just canceling sounds. We can select allowed applications and notifications that can ignore muting, and also apply slightly more advanced rules, such as activating a certain mode at a certain time or in a certain situation (eg when we connect a controller game). We can also start each mode manually at any time.
To go to Focus Mode settings, select Options – Focus modeand then we can click on an existing method and change it or select a symbol + in the upper right corner and add a new mode – predefined or created by us.
Notification summary helps you avoid using too many apps
Too many calls and absolute chaos when we put the phone down even for an hour, let alone for a longer time? It is easy to miss something important, but with the summary function it is not a problem. We can select applications from which calls are canceled and delivered together at a time we choose, for example at 7am and 7pm, ie before and after work. We may also force expedited delivery of the notification package at any time.
Too many notifications to look through? If we want, iPhone will make a convenient summary for us.Source: iOS 18.1
To enable notification summary, select Settings – Notifications – Recorded Minutes and then turn on the slide. If we have not used the contact summary before, the system will launch a wizard that allows us to collect the rules for calls step by step. But don’t worry, everything can be easily customized afterwards.
Why is this action useful? The most common application is to cancel notifications, eg from private messengers, news gathering applications, social networking sites and shopping applications, briefly – those that are not usually urgent and we see them in our free time. Thanks to this, fewer things distract us during the day. Together with the Focus Method described above, these two tools are a powerful duo in managing our attention and concentration.
