Rema 1000 advertises with cut before Christmas. At Extra it is crazy weeks of Christmas. And with the customers self-set prices, advertising is included everything until Christmas is free at Kiwi.
But even if they were all bragging about having cut the prices of many Christmas items, there is no reason to go crazy in the shops.

Big differences in prices
On December 8 last year Nettavisen was involved full bags for less than a hundred Danish kroner at the three discount chains. Now these prices have been reviewed, and the conclusion is that the shopping bags are 140 to 150 percent more expensive now than when we checked last year.

For example, half a liter of Tomtegglug cost NOK 10 last December. today stands at 47.90 $.
Christmas soda varieties of the chains themselves cost around five kroner for 1.5 liters just a little over a year ago. The cost is 15 pounds today.
Here’s how the change is for other products:
- Gingerbread: 7.90 last year, now: 17.80
- Porridge: 12.00 last year, now: 27.90
- Marzipan Pig: 11.80 last year, now: 26.90
- Christmas sausage: 16.90 last year, now: 26.90
- Clementines: 19.90 last year, now 29.00 to 37.90 per kilogram

– Very terrible
– These are amazing differences, and it definitely shows that the Christmas price war has not started, says blogger Rune “Gjerrigknarken” Nikolaisen to Nettavisen.
– Here are products that today are 300 to 500 percent more expensive than last year, it is very extreme, he says.

The low price chains have advertised with cuts in Christmas prices in recent weeks, but so far it is very small, Gjerrigknarken thinks.
– I think we have to wait until the end of November or the beginning of December before there is a price war, he says.
questionable
In both 2022 and 2023, Nettavisen conducted price tests where the goal was to get as many Christmas-related items in a bag at each of the discount chains.
Last year we got a little more products for the first blade than in 2022. But this year “Gjerrignarken” is not very optimistic.
– There are several offers that I see now that are much worse than last year, he says.
This week, for example, Coop Ob has offered four times two kilos of wheat flour for 69.90. Just the same week last year, the price was 49.90.

– If you buy the same bag of Christmas goods as last year, I think you will have to shell out NOK 150, he says.
In other words, it will mean a price increase of fifty percent.

The bounty hunters are a joke
– The bounty hunters are gone now, and I’m not sure how that will affect the Christmas price war. There will be a delay, and I am not sure if that will cause prices to fall as much as they used to, says the price expert.
In any case, he believes that prices will not be completely dumped anytime soon.
– I expect them to start at the end of November or the beginning of December. The chains rely on attractive offers to bring in people.
At Nettavisen’s request, Nikolaisen has made a list of commodities where he expects prices to fall in the future:
- Wheat flour, 2 kg
- Bacon Lutefish (diced)
- Marzipan Pig
- Melissa
- Boiled cream
- Gingerbread dough
- Idun Mustard
- Almonds in a lot
