The Union of Cinematographers expressed its condolences to Pankratov’s family and loved ones. His farewell will be held on November 18 at the Vostryakovsky cemetery in Moscow.
Alexander Pankratov was born on September 4, 1946 in Moscow. In 1968, he graduated from the camera department of VGIK and immediately after graduation he worked on television until 1974, where he produced several documentaries, including “The Amazing Boy”, “With a Song through Life” and ” Nerves-Nerves”. , as well as the animated film “Blue puppy.”
After completing his studies at the directing department of VGIK in 1979, Pankratov became the author of several feature films, including “Portrait of the Artist’s Wife”, “Happy, Zhenya!”, “Tricks in the Old Spirit”, “Farewell, Zamoskvoretskaya punks”, “Tomorrow”, “Beard with Glasses and a Warthog (Emigrant)” and “Hitchhiking”.
Due to the economic upheaval at the beginning of the 1980s and 1990s, Alexander Pankratov was left without a job in the cinema for several years. During this time, he worked part-time as a driver and tried his hand at business. As he himself recalled: “I sold shoes, beer, cookies.” He said these words in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta in 2010, noting that the perestroika years were interesting to him.
In 2006, he published a book of prose called “The Starry Sky over Potylikha”.
