After Christopher Nolan‘s brilliant The Dark Knight trilogy, fans weren’t exactly clamoring for another Batman film. In 2022, a new version of the DC hero, The Batman, was released in which Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne.
Matt Reeves’ blockbuster doesn’t have to hide from the Nolan films, as his three-hour vision of the Dark Knight is a brilliantly dark neo-noir thriller. With a Netflix subscription you can stream The Batman until November 18th – then he disappears from the flat.

In Reeves’ Batman film, Pattinson stars as a younger Bruce Wayne who has not yet merged with his superhero role. In The Batman he has to investigate a series of murders in which the Riddler (Paul Dano) leaves personal riddles for the main character at the crime scenes. Also there are Selena Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) aka Catwoman and the gangster boss Penguin (Colin Farrell).

In The Batman, the director has created what is probably the most fantastic interpretation of Gotham City from the comics to date. Its setting is a gloomy hellhole where influences from David Fincher masterpieces such as Seven and Zodiac are visible. This DC blockbuster is thanks to the Riddler, who is portrayed like a disturbing serial killer not a conventional superhero storybut a darkly thrilling neo-noir thriller.
Added to that Robert Pattinson’s great performance in the main role. His Bruce Wayne comes across with a depressed, emaciated aura that makes the man behind the mask seem more hypnotic and fascinating than Christian Bale in the Nolan trilogy. Anyone who still sees Pattinson as the smooth Twilight pretty boy will quickly be convinced of the opposite by his The Batman performance.
When does The Batman 2 start in cinemas?
The cinema release for the sequel to the DC blockbuster has already been confirmed. The Batman 2 is scheduled to be released from… 1 October 2026 run with us. Aside from Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight, there is currently no information about the story of the sequel.
