More than 130 electric guitars, amplifiers and other pieces of musical equipment belonging to the legend of Jeff Beck‘s English guitar will be sold in London next year, Christie’s auctioneers said on Friday.
Often referred to as “the guitarist’s guitar”, Beck rose to fame with The Yardbirds, pursuing a solo career. and he was great with people like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. He died last year at 78 years old.
The auction includes one of Beck’s most recognizable instruments: the brown 1954 Gibson Les Paul “Oxblood” that appears on the cover of his instrument album “Blow By Blow” from 1975. Its value is estimated between 350,000 and 500,000 pounds (US$444,000-US$634,000), according to Christies.
“These guitars were his great love and after that “Almost two years after their deaths, it’s time to say goodbye to them the way Jeff wanted,” said Beck’s widow, Sandra. “It’s very painful to part with them, but I know Jeff wanted me to share this love.
“I hope that there will be guitar players in the future which gets these things closer to the genius who touched them,” he said.
The most famous works of the auction will be presented in Los Angeles from 4 to 6 December. The The entire collection will be on view at Christie’s headquarters in London from January 15 until the auction on January 22..
