Los Angeles is a trio: after 1932 and 1984, in 2028 it will host the (summer) Olympic Games again after the agreement reached with the IOC and Paris which hosted this year’s edition with complete success. The IOC coordination commission was in California these days: everything is going well. Commission members also visited a number of venues, including Long Beach, the new Inglewood Arena that will host basketball during the Games, and the University of California (UCLA) student facilities that will serve as the Olympic and Paralympic Village , and the Rose Bowl. With the LA Memorial Coliseum, the 102-year-old Rose Bowl will become one of two venues in Los Angeles to have hosted three Olympic Games. Historic, iconic facilities, known throughout the world by sports enthusiasts.
IOC LA28 Coordination Commission Chair Nicole Hoevertsz said: “Every time we visit Los Angeles, we are reminded of how extraordinary this city is and how extraordinary its people are. We see this in the quality and quantity of world-class sporting facilities available for the Games, including modern, state-of-the-art stadiums and iconic venues from the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games. This rich history has embedded the Games within the DNA of Los Angeles, and I saw him again during this visit. LA28 also has the ability to energize the Games with the culture of innovation. As organizers enter a new phase, the pace of preparations will now change and, together, we will work hard to create an unforgettable experience that can be remembered well beyond 2028.”
Over the next two years LA28 will finalize planning and begin delivery of the venue masterplan, competition programme, Look of the Games, ticketing and hospitality programmes, mascots, Cultural Olympics and volunteer recruitment. The LA28 Olympic Games will be held from 14 to 30 July 2028. The Paralympic Games will take place between 15 and 27 August. During this week, IOC member Giovanni Malagò was also in Los Angeles, who will return to Italy tomorrow and next week will be in Lombardy to take care of our home Games, the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. Meanwhile, the organizers of the Los Angeles Games have confirmed that the re-election of Donald Trump as president of the United States will not affect their preparations, underlining that the Games remain “above politics”. “The Olympics are not about politics,” they explained, “and they are not about red and blue, but about red, white and blue,” Wasserman said. ”These are the America Games taking place in Los Angeles. In this country, one party cannot dictate everything.
