Church was diagnosed with gastroparesis, a paralysis of the stomach. According to the platform Future for Patients In this disease, the normal movement and emptying of the stomach is disrupted, meaning that food is not transported and digested as usual. The consequences are symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, feeling of fullness, loss of appetite, premature satiety and unwanted weight loss.
Serious complaints and criticism of Ozempic
Church also suffers from these problems. Today she can only eat small meals to avoid pain. Even her former favorite foods such as pizza and bread are taboo for her, reported Daily Mail. When she was prescribed, Church said, she was not informed about such side effects.
The company’s drug Ozempic Novo Nordiskwhich is considered to be the trigger, has been criticized since Church’s case. Last year, doctors at the Harvard Medical School Eye Clinic reported an increasing number of patients suffering from worsening vision after being treated with a diabetes injection containing the active ingredient semaglutide.
Individual cases are increasing
Church is far from the only person to experience serious side effects after taking the diabetes medication. According to the Daily Mail Robert King, a lawyer from New York, now represents over 400 affected people. Many complain of stomach discomfort, but other serious symptoms such as blood clots, blindness, tooth loss and even paralysis also occur.
Roderick Shirley, an 83-year-old retiree from Florida, is particularly hard hit. After he started taking Ozempic in 2022, he developed blood clots in his hip and lungs that threatened his life. During emergency operations, he suffered three cardiac arrests and narrowly escaped death twice.
Jacqueline Barber, 49, from Louisville also experienced serious side effects. She was prescribed Ozempic as a “miracle cure” for diabetes. Instead, she lost over 130 pounds, stomach acid destroyed her teeth, and because of her physical weakness she now relies on a walker.
Manufacturer defends himself
Despite the increasing number of complaints, many patients agree that they are not calling for a complete ban on Ozempic. However, it is important to you that people are better informed about possible risks. They themselves would not have taken the medication if they had known how badly it would affect their health.
Novo Nordisk According to the Daily Mail, he himself is not aware of any guilt. A spokesperson said that these complaints are unfounded and that the side effects and risks of Ozempic are clearly stated on the package insert:
Novo Nordisk stands behind the safety and effectiveness of all of its GLP-1 medications when taken as directed and under the care of a licensed healthcare professional.
