Basketball remains, by definition, a sport of skill. So, by scoring a whopping 23 points at just 23% shooting success, ALM Évreux found itself in difficulty at half-time. Opposite, Caen, without much genius, led at the break but without having managed to take a considerable lead (23-35). So everything was playable. Especially since it seemed, in terms of address, that it couldn’t be worse. And, in fact, Évreux almost came back from hell.
24% address in the 30th minute and yet…
If it was still 12 points behind at the start of the last round (40-52), with a skill that was still as poor (24%!), the ALM would then change its defense. An option which would prove almost decisive… The 2-1-2 zone concocted by Marc Namura, with Tanghe and Fofana in control, would considerably hamper the Calvadosiens who no longer scored a basket. Carried by his audience, Évreux would pass a 16-2 to his opponent. In this highlight, captain Alexis Tanghe was going to be the detonator and take a beating with 9 points.
Coming from nowhere, the Ebroïcians took the lead (56-54, 35th). But Caen kept a cool head despite this incredible turnaround. The two teams would go blow for blow. While Day and Radnic scored big 3-point shots, Marc-Eddy Norelia, decisive in the money-time (8 points), kept the CBC alive, “on shots that he usually doesn’t take” whispered the Ebroician coach.

“The ugliest victories are the most beautiful”
Radnic then took his responsibilities from afar but the rear missed the target. Caen did not hesitate to seal the fate of the match on the free throw line (65-70). The Bas-Normands therefore won this derby after letting the one against Rouen (73-90) slip away a week ago. “We came here to play a defensive match because the victories won by Évreux were each time with very high scores.commented Stéphane Eberlin, the Caen coach. It wasn’t a great basketball game, but the ugliest wins are the best. » While Caen is in 7th place in the ranking, Évreux remains 16th.
