Eight reports of police violence after a banned demonstration in Amsterdam

Demonstrators are being taken to the Western Docklands

Eight demonstrators who attended an anti-Palestinian protest on Dam Square in Amsterdam last Wednesday have filed a report because of the police violence that was used. Photos showed officers beating several protesters with batons.

As a result of the riots a week before, demonstrations in the city were banned. Despite this, a group decided to demonstrate on Dam Square. The police led the group of almost 300 demonstrators in buses to an area far outside the centre, in the Western Docklands.

Several witnesses say that they were hit on the head, arms and legs after being kicked off the bus. They are talking about “extreme violence” by the police.

Maybe more reports

The lawyer Willem Jebbink, who represents the demonstrators who submitted a report, says that the action of the police is “illegal in several ways and therefore very worrying”. The demonstrators believe that more people will enter the declaration in the coming days.

The police previously said that the actions of the officers will be investigated. “Police violence is always intense to see and it’s proven and evaluated.”
