Storms, lightning and strong winds were the main characteristics of the bad weather that hit many areas of the prefecture of Ilia yesterday (12/11), causing significant problems.
Heavy rain on Tuesday night turned central streets of Pyrgos into rivers, with the passage of vehicles being interrupted at various points according to patrisnews. At the junction of Katakolo and Erythro Stavros streets, at the old hospital, the water flooded the road, making it impassable.
Good morning. By this time, the “harvest” of rain reached 100mm in Pyrgos. For the next three days, the news is also good for the eastern regions. which will receive significant amounts of rain mainly on Friday.@EMY_HNMS @CivPro_GR @Starchannelnew1 @uoaofficial @duthnac pic.twitter.com/lu7FNZcKOJ

Although there were forecasts of bad weather, the wells were unable to cope with the volume of water. Employees of the municipality of Pyrgos and citizens tried, despite the heavy rain, to unclog the wells, temporarily helping to decongest the network. Within a short period of time, the municipality’s crews intervened effectively, restoring the problems created by the bad weather.
Authorities are on high alert as severe weather may continue today.
Electricity was cut in several areas of Ilia
The electricity supply was interrupted in several settlements due to the lightning that caused damage to a DEDDIE station. Areas such as Ancient Olympia, Floka, and several villages of the former municipality of Oleni remained without electricity for a long time.
At the same time, several vehicles were stuck in the mud in Pyrgos and Hanakia, due to the heavy rains that turned many roads into mud traps, while the Fire Department received calls to pump water from the area of Lapatos, in Pyrgos.
