Trump appoints his lawyers to key Justice Department positions

To support the controversial Matt Gaetz appointed Minister of Justice, Donald Trump has appointed three of his experienced lawyers who defend him in his criminal cases.

Matt Gaetz, former elected official from Florida, is a loyal Trumpist who is not sure of obtaining Senate confirmation because he is, among other things, suspected of relations with a minor and had plotted the overthrow of the leader of the Republican majority of the House of Representatives. The president-elect thus promoted three of his personal lawyers – Todd Blanche, Emil Bove and John Sauer – as numbers two, three and four in the Department of Justice, the powerful federal judiciary which oversees prosecutors throughout the country.

Todd Blanche and Emil Bove are known for having defended Donald Trump in the criminal trial on hidden payments to a former porn actress, Stormy Daniels, which led to his historic conviction on May 30 by the local justice system. New York State. Unheard of for a former American president.

Experienced lawyers who are well established

Todd Blanche, who also advises him in two other federal cases, was named deputy justice minister on Thursday. His colleague Emil Bove, who had also represented the Republican billionaire in New York, and in instructions at the federal level, should be number 3 in the protocol order. Above all, he will be interim number 2, while Todd Blanche will go before the Senate. Finally, John Sauer, who successfully pleaded for presidential immunity before the Supreme Court, inherits the 4th most important position in Justice. As “Solicitor General”, or “general counsel”, he should represent the American executive before the nine judges who make up the high court.

The three men are experienced lawyers who are well established. Todd Blanche graduated from Brooklyn Law School in New York, while Emil Bove graduated from Georgetown University in the capital, Washington. John Sauer graduated from the very prestigious Harvard and also studied at the famous British Oxford. They have also been magistrates and federal prosecutors, including Todd Blanche and Emil Bove at the very powerful federal prosecutor’s office in Manhattan, New York. Mr. Sauer served as Solicitor General of Missouri.

Todd Blanche “will be a central leader of the Department of Justice to repair a justice system that has been broken for too long,” according to Donald Trump, while Emil Bove will “eradicate corruption and crime.”

Towards a dismissal?

In the Stormy Daniels trial, the pronouncement of the criminal sentence against Donald Trump, 78 years old – possibly prison – continues to be postponed: from July to September, and now to November 26. Based on the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity, his lawyers challenge the legality of his conviction in New York and demand “the final dismissal of the case”, due to his re-election on November 5.

Under enormous pressure, New York Judge Juan Merchan must rule on this request on November 19 and then decide whether a sentence should actually be imposed on the 26th.

Donald Trump is also being prosecuted in Washington for his alleged attempts to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election, and in Florida for leaving the White House with classified documents. But both cases are in trouble and prosecutor Smith should dismiss the case because the Justice Department cannot prosecute a sitting president.

Donald Trump “wants to exploit Justice to seek revenge” on his Democratic opponents, by making the ministry “his own legal firm (with) his personal lawyers,” thundered Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who chairs the commission until January judiciary of the upper house of Congress.
