Madrid. The Spanish police reported the arrest in an operation carried out in the provinces of Madrid and Toledo of 16 people allegedly linked to the Sinaloa cartel, among them a Mexican citizen and chemist by profession who expressly traveled to Spain to create and develop drug laboratories. production of methamphetamine and cocaine.
The operation began last July, after a series of suspicious movements and which allowed, in addition to the arrests of the people involved, the seizure of six and a half kilos of methamphetamine, 31 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride, 125 kilos of cocaine base, 10 kilos of ephedrine, seven thousand 500 liters of precursors and more than 21 thousand euros in cash.
In a statement from the National Police, some details of the operation were released, which was thanks to a series of counter-surveillance tasks that began last July in a town in the province of Toledo, Yuncos. According to the hypothesis of the Spanish police, the chemist who traveled from Mexico belongs to the Sinaloa cartel and had work ties with the group known as the Chapitos.
After several surveillance tasks, investigators verified the “unusual movement” of people and vehicles and expanded surveillance at the site. “After various investigations, the agents expanded the objectives and identified the different members of the organization. It was especially difficult to locate the laboratories, due to their isolated locations and the security measures taken by those investigated,” according to the Spanish police statement.
They also explained that first, the agents located the methamphetamine laboratory in Palomeque (Toledo) after verifying the delivery of a large quantity of liquids and reagents that were previously “cooled” at intermediate points until their final transfer to the laboratory. Subsequently, a new laboratory was detected in the town of Méntrida, located on a farm “totally isolated and very difficult to access.” Of the 16 people arrested, 15 have already been placed in provisional prison.
