Los Angeles, Nov 15 (EFE).- A Colombian migrant died after falling from one of the border walls that divides California and Mexico in an attempt to evade arrest by the United States immigration authorities, the Office reported this Friday. the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP, in English).
The incident occurred on the morning of November 8 when a member of the California National Guard assigned to monitor the border reported by radio that a group of foreigners was scaling a first border wall, about 400 meters west of the busy port of entry. from Otay Mesa (California).
CBP cameras captured that one person returned to Mexico and three others managed to get over the first wall using a ladder and ran to the second border barrier, which has a height of more than 9 meters.
A Border Patrol agent arrived at the area between the primary and secondary barrier and observed two men on top of the second wall.
Both migrants began their descent when they saw the agent and one of them fell when trying to get down.
The second barrier prevented the agent from paying attention to the migrant, who was later reported to be a man of Colombian nationality.
The agent was able to observe that the Colombian was conscious and “moaning in pain,” but minutes later he stopped responding, the CBP detailed in the statement.
About twenty minutes later, firefighters managed to access the accident area and declared the migrant dead.
The other two migrants who managed to escape were detained. CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating the incident.
