Reading day at the primary school on Wiesenhügel in Erfurt. Minister Helmut Holter: “Reading out opens doors to a new world”

On Friday, November 15, 2024, the Minister of Education Helmut Holter read from the book “The Quiet Luise” to the students of the state primary school at Wiesenhügel in Erfurt during the national reading day. The lovingly illustrated children’s book tells the story of a girl who learns that even quiet voices can be heard. With “The Quiet Luise” the choice fell on a book in which moderate values and grateful sympathy are clearly and visibly expressed.

Minister Holter, who has been regularly involved in the reading day in recent years, emphasized the importance of reading for children’s language and reading skills. “Reading aloud opens doors to new worlds and encourages imagination and creativity,” he said.

The children listened eagerly to Luise’s adventures and took an active part in the discussions that followed. The atmosphere was marked by curiosity and enthusiasm, which once again showed the importance of such activities.

Since 2004, the National Reading Day has been Germany’s biggest reading festival and calls for reading aloud every November on a joint initiative of DIE ZEIT, the Reading Foundation and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation.
