Orthodox priests from Plovdiv spoke out against Madonna’s concert in Sofia on August 29.
On this date, the church honors St. John the Baptist.
“On this day there is a strict fast and the lay people must spend the day on bread and water and in deep abstinence from revelries and worldly pleasures,” explained Father Emil Paralingov from the Church of “St. Paraskeva”.
“I can’t even call the singer by the name she chose, because we call Madonna the Mother of God,” the report further indignant.
The priest recalled the beheading of John the Baptist and how he became the victim of an unclean woman, as the Catholic Church also accepts the pop singer Madonna.
There were similar outrages and disagreements before Madonna’s concert in Warsaw, where it was supposed to take place on the day of the Assumption.
In Poland, an initiative committee was even formed to cancel the concert, in which former president Lech Walesa also joined. However, her concert took place in front of an audience of 80,000.
