Bad operation for Brazil. Dorival Junior’s men did not manage to escape the trap set by Venezuela this Thursday (1-1). The Brazilians miss the opportunity to put pressure on Colombia and Argentina and remain 3rd in the single qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup.
Everything started well though. The Brazilians validated their domination of the first period with Raphinha’s opening goal. Coincidence of fate, the Barça captain scored his 10th goal for Brazil in his first match as the new number 10 of the Seleçao.
Upon returning from the locker room, the Auriverde were immediately surprised. Just forty seconds after coming into play, Telasco Segovia sent a missile under Ederson’s bar to put his team back on level terms (1-1, 46th). Excited but disorganized, the Venezuelans continued to push as the match got a little crazy.
Missed penalty, red card and automatic watering
Launched against by Gerson, Vinicius was brought down by the goalkeeper inside the area (59th). The Madrilenian wanted to take justice into his own hands but he completely missed it. He sent his penalty at Romo before seeing the ball come back to him and then shooting wide.
After that, the Venezuelans lived the rest of the match in apnea. Jon Aramburu (71st) and Angel Wilker (74th) saved the locals and tempers were heating up. For a slap on Vinicius, Alexander Gonzalez left his team at 10 for added time.
And since it was said that this match would be crazy until the end, the automatic watering of the pitch was triggered a few minutes before the final whistle, causing a surreal scene in which the Brazilians tried in vain to turn off. Finally, the heroic Venezuelans were released by the referee and were able to share their joy with a jubilant stadium.
