Tour start for Silly in Dresden – Kulturpalast is upside down

The East German cult band Silly really hit the nerve of the audience at the premiere of their “Electroacoustic” tour in the Dresden Kulturpalast. After more than two hours, the musicians around keyboardist Ritchie Barton added five more encores and brought the concert hall to a boil with hits like “Die wilde Mathilde”, “Where do I begin” and “Bye Bye”. Silly had also previously served big numbers from more than 40 years of band history, including “Mont Klamott”, “Bataillon d’Amour” and “Asyl im Paradies”.

In addition to the three Silly musicians Barton, Uwe Hassbecker (guitar) and Hans-Jürgen “Jäcki” Reznicek (bass), singer Julia Neigel and City frontman Toni Krahl were on stage. The band had also strengthened with drummer Ronny Dehn and Hassbecker’s son Daniel, who also mixed new sounds into the Silly sound with accordion and cello. Krahl admitted that he was jealous of his Silly colleagues – not because of their long hair, but because, as a Berliner, he would have actually liked to write the song “Mont Klamott”.

He then interpreted it in his very fresh version. Neigel, in turn, told the audience that when she joined the band a few years ago, she brought with her a whole wish list of Silly songs that she really wanted to sing. The song “Everything Red” was one of them. On the current tour, fans should not only reminisce, but also get to know many songs in a new guise – thanks to the interpretation of Neigel and Krahl.

The tour lasts until March 7, 2025. Silly also appears in halls such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Alte Oper in Erfurt. The next performances are on November 23rd in Frankfurt an der Oder and on November 27th in the Stadthalle Cottbus. On February 18th the band will return to the additional concert in the Dresden Kulturpalast. “It will be an exciting journey through our musical repertoire, which we will revive together with Julia and Toni,” said Silly.
