Well, it didn’t take long: just two days after its appearance in the Philippines, the new dedicated <a href="https://www.world-today-news.com/standalone-google-gemini-app-spotted-for-iphone-with-live/" title="Standalone ‘Google Gemini’ app spotted for iPhone with Live”>Google Gemini app for iPhone is finally available in Europe too. While previously those who wanted to use Google Gemini on iPhone had to use the Google app, which on iPad did not offer Google’s AI chatbot, the dedicated app has now arrived. To install it, simply open the App Store (the blue icon with the stylized “A” in white) and press Search at the bottom right. At the top, write Google Gemini and tap the corresponding entry. You can also follow this link directly. Now tap Get and, if asked, authenticate with Face ID/Touch ID or Apple Account password (formerly Apple ID). The news is that the app is also available for iPad (but not for Mac, not even with M1 chips and later), but the interface is not optimized for a larger screen.
Using the new Gemini app for iPhone is just like doing it on Android. Launch the app (it’s a blue star icon on a white background) and confirm your Google account at the bottom. If you haven’t yet paired one on your iPad, you can add one. Next, swipe to the information screen, which tells you how activities are recorded, for how long, and other useful information. Choose whether you want to check the box at the bottom of the page to be notified of the latest news and tap Use Gemini. You will now arrive at the main screen, with the welcome message and at the bottom the field in which to enter the prompt. You can make the request verbally by tapping the microphone icon or add an image by tapping the camera icon.
As on Android, on iPhone too, there is Gemini Live in French, the function which allows you to converse with Gemini. To use it, tap the icon at the bottom right and if you want to listen to the introductory message, which also shows a pop-up window on some briefing notes. Scroll down and tap OK, or if you don’t want to hear them, tap Skip. Tap Allow to allow access to the microphone, then you can choose from the available voices by swiping to the left. Finally, tap Start to start speaking. The chat will start and you will be able to chat with Gemini. On compatible iPhones, the Gemini app also supports Dynamic Island and real-time activity on the lock screen (tap Allow to allow them). This way you can pause the conversation from any screen.
Can Gemini be used instead of Siri? Unlike Android, Apple does not allow you to use another voice assistant. In theory, it is possible to use specific shortcuts to quickly activate Google Assistant, but at the moment it works with Google Assistant, ChatGPT and Perplexity: not with Gemini. How it works is simple: find the shortcuts on the phone’s home page (go to the home page, scroll down from the middle of the screen and write Shortcuts). Tap the “+” button at the top right, tap the action search box and write Assistant, then select it and tap Ask Google (or other commands for the Assistant you’re interested in). Now go to your phone’s settings and tap Accessibility. Here, tap on Voice abbreviations and tap on Continue. You can now associate actions with voice commands by tapping Set up voice shortcuts, scroll down and tap Ask Google, then enter a custom phrase (for example, Hey Google). Finally, repeat the phrase three times and the action will be ready.
