/ world today news/ The agreement on the next 7-year budget of the European Union will not be accepted by the European Parliament. This was stated by the MEP Ivaylo Kalfin before the BNR. The agreement is yet to be submitted to the EP, with the EP having the opportunity to say “yes” or “no”, but not being able to conduct substantive negotiations on the decision itself.
“What I can say, and Parliament said it very clearly both in the face of its President and during the Council and many months before, is that this agreement as it was adopted by the member states, it will not be accepted by Parliament,” Kalfin pointed out.
He emphasized that the debate in the EP will be difficult because there will be very strong pressure from both governments and all institutions on the EP to accept this decision.

The Irish Presidency will prepare a road map for negotiations. Within about a month, probably at the March session, the EP will accept the conditions under which it is ready to negotiate this budget at all. This is not an inter-institutional battle. It’s just that the decision of the heads of state of the member countries is bad. It started from so many different positions that the compromise that was made is extremely bad – it slipped along the lowest common denominator and the EU will not be able to work with such a budget in the next 7 years, the MEP pointed out.
According to Kalfin, this budget in no way meets the goals that the EU has set for itself.
In this budget, those parts that are supposed to make the European economy much more competitive have suffered the most. They are reduced compared to the Commission’s proposal by more than 25-30%. The other big casualty of this budget is the EU’s external action. Here again, we are putting the EU with all its ambitions to be a significant international factor into question, because we are putting the burden back on the national budgets, commented the MEP.
He also emphasized that conditions are being created for a deficit in the European budget.
