Tropical Storm Sara already leaves heavy rains in parts of Honduras – Telemundo Miami (51)

Tropical Storm Sara is already generating heavy rain and flooding in Honduras as it moves over the Caribbean towards the coast of Central America this Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

According to the NHC’s 4:00 pm ET bulletin on Thursday, the system was 165 miles east-southeast of Guanaja Island, Honduras, and 65 miles northeast of Cape Gracias a Dios. on the border between Nicaragua and Honduras.

The potential tropical cyclone had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour, and was moving west at 10 miles per hour.

  • The northern coast of Honduras from Punta Sal eastward to the border between Honduras and Nicaragua
  • The Bay Islands of Honduras

A tropical storm watch is in force:

  • The northeast coast of Nicaragua from Puerto Cabezas north to the Honduras-Nicaragua border

The system threatens Honduras with dangerous flooding later in the week.

DISCUSSION AND PATH

The storm was expected to stall and drift near the coast of Honduras over the weekend, the National Hurricane Center said. Heavy rain is also forecast for Belize, El Salvador, eastern Guatemala and western Nicaragua.

The storm is expected to strengthen before approaching Belize and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula early next week.

It would make landfall in Honduras between Friday and Saturday, according to the NHC.
