Samsung could be working on smart glasses, according to a new patent for an XR headset.

A delay for Samsung’s XR headset
Initially planned for the end of 2024, Samsung has confirmed that the launch of its XR headset has been postponed to 2025. News which modifies the plans initially announced by the South Korean firm a year ago.
A design revealed by a patent filing
Recently, the 91Mobiles team spotted a patent filing in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database. This patent reveals a helmet design similar to what l’Apple Vision Pro or the Meta Quest 3.
The design shown in the drawings, however, appears flatter than competing models. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will succeed in making a thinner headset.
Technical specifications still unclear
The drawings show two circular areas for the eyes, with the front part of the headset likely housing the SSD, RAM and CPU. Unlike the Vision Pro which is autonomous, Samsung’s device appears to be equipped with a controller.
Visually, the patent states that the headset uses “reference points” in virtual space versus real space for navigation and operation. The headset would map your field of vision for this.
On the other hand, the patent does not specify what type of screen the helmet could be equipped with. It could be an LCD or OLED screen. It appears that the interface resembles that of the Apple headset, allowing interaction with virtual elements such as menus and icons.
And bonus smart glasses?
The XR headset isn’t the only device mentioned in Samsung’s patent filing. Indeed, the document also mentions a pair of smart glasses, described as a “wearable device for displaying visual objects”.
Samsung, in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, could therefore work on two or more versions of its anticipated XR platform. An ambitious project which already raises a lot of expectations.
