Franz Wagner led the Orlando Magic to their next victory in the North American professional basketball league NBA with a strong performance. National team captain Dennis Schröder went down with the Nets against the Celtics. Young star Victor Wembanyama from the San Antonio Spurs wrote his name into the history books.
Franz Wagner was once again the top scorer for the Orlando Magic with 29 points in the 94:90 win against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday evening (11/13/2024/local time).
His older brother Moritz contributed 10 points, German rookie Tristan da Silva scored two points in 21 minutes of playing time, but also played his part in the victory with 9 rebounds. Center Goga Bitadze also shone on the board, grabbing 12 rebounds.
Orlando secured the win with a strong final quarter with a 13-1 run. It was the fourth win in a row for the Magic, who also won all six of their home games.
Schröder and Nets overrun by the masters
Dennis Schröder and the Brooklyn Nets suffered a massive 114:139 home defeat against the Boston Celtics. By halftime, the German national team captain’s team (16 points) was within striking distance (60:65). But in the second period the champions turned things around. Jayson Tatum excelled at the Celtics with 36 points. For the Nets it was the seventh defeat in the twelfth game. They have only won once in the last 13 duels against Boston.
Wembanyama scored 50 points for the first time
Victor Wembanyama has made NBA history again. With his new career best in his San Antonio Spurs’ 139:130 win against the Washington Wizards, the 20-year-old Frenchman became the fourth-youngest player to reach the 50-point mark. So far, only Brandon Jennings, LeBron James and Devin Booker, who were all also 20 years old when they cracked 50 points, were younger.
“I’d like to tell you that you wake up a certain way or feel really good when you’re warming up, but at the end of the day in the NBA we have a game every other day,” said Wembanyama, who sank eight three-pointers against the Wizards. The center’s NBA best was previously 40 points. The Frenchman has now sunk six or more three-point shots in three games in a row.
Superstars shine – 59 points for Antetokounmpo, 45 for Towns
He was only surpassed by Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar even scored 59 points in the 127:120 win after overtime against the Detroit Pistons. The Greek sank 21 of his 34 shots and also had 14 rebounds and seven assists.
