Like every year, the world is colored purple for a day and, even if the phenomenon of prematurity is unknown to most, for many families, November 17, 2024 recalls a wonderful and terrible experience that marked the birth of their newborn. TINsieme, always on the side of the little ones, wants to ideally embrace all families, address the problem of prematurity with them and raise public awareness.
At the Cremona Hospital, an average of 1100-1200 boys and girls are born every year, of which 7-8% are born before the term. «A figure in line with the national trend – he explains Bruno Drera (Director of Neonatal Pathology) who continues: «in recent years there has been a slight reduction in preterm births (from 10% to 6%), of which the majority are what we call “late preterm” or late premature births, which are born between the 34th and 36th weeks of gestational age. 10% of premature births, therefore 1% of all births, are born under 32 weeks or under 1500 grams.
In Cremona, 70 to 80 preterm babies are born every year and of these 10-12 are very low weight or under the 32nd week of gestational age and are those who most need care. When new parents find themselves unexpectedly experiencing preterm birth, they find themselves in an unknown experience full of emotion, worry and sometimes pain. The premature baby outside the mother’s womb finds himself in an environment for which his organs, such as the heart, lungs and brain, are not yet ready. Luckily Neonatology makes progress every year and helps little newborns face a long treatment journey: that’s why we call them little warriors.”
November 17th is a symbolic but very important day, dedicated to them and their families. «The aim is to make known their miracle determined by a very strong desire for life». Drera’s voice joins those of the coordinator Morena Nazzari and of the entire medical and nursing team to «thank you with all their respect and affection the Tinsieme association because it supports the department with important technological donations and because every year it celebrates this day with events that touch us closely and help the population to remember all the boys and girls born prematurely.”
In recent days, in the atrium of the Cremona hospital, one has been set up photographic exhibition; through Federica Cattagni’s shots you will be enveloped in a journey that speaks of the experience of those who have come across the Neonatal Pathology department where care is carried out with professionalism and harmony. The images, placed on music stands, evoke the analogy with the harmony of music and accompany the visitor in understanding this reality.
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th purple light beam it will illuminate the hospital entrance to draw attention to the anniversary.
A meeting will be held on Sunday 17th at 4pm in the hospital atrium meeting between parents and children (creative workshops planned for them) to listen to some testimonies and exchange experiences related to births complicated by small or large pathologies. Followed by refreshments offered by TINsieme.
Last but not least Friday 15 Novemberfrom 8.30 am (always in the hospital atrium), the stall with the sale of small and nice gadgets and objects.
