Singer Marta Jandová had her breasts and ovaries removed. Like Angelina Jolie, she had a genetic defect

Singer Marta Jandová (50) had her breasts and ovaries removed as a precaution. She underwent genetic tests that showed an increased likelihood of cancer, she confided at the launch of her new book Best of. Her mother and brother died of the disease.

“They sent me to the doctor for genetic testing. I found out that I have a genetic defect, actually exactly the same as Angelina Jolie,” Marta Jandová described in an interview for Showtime.

In the case of Marta Jandová, the risk of developing breast cancer was eighty to ninety percent, her risk of developing ovarian cancer was around sixty percent. Martina’s mother died of cancer at the age of 46, and the singer admitted that she made the decision to remove her organs mainly for the sake of her daughter – so that she could spend more time with her than was given to Martina’s mother.

Jandová also hopes that she can be an inspiration for women with a similar problem. For her, it was the aforementioned Angelina Jolie. “When it appeared in the press, I didn’t understand Angelina Jolie at first. Then when I found out that I had the same thing, I was grateful to her that she did it in front of me, that I didn’t feel so alone,” she said.

Angelina Jolie underwent a preventive mastectomy in 2013. She had an 87 percent risk of developing cancer.
