March traditionally marks the beginning of a period of intensified exercises for the Bulgarian Army. It will last until the end of November. “The Bulgarian army must conduct exercises and training, because this is the task of every professional army,” said Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev. He added that there can be no compromise on combat readiness as it would mean a compromise on national security. As part of the exercises, the three types of armed forces – land, air force and navy – will participate in about 70 exercises. The Bulgarian armed forces will be part of more than 20 exercises in other countries – Greece, Romania, Albania, Poland, Germany and Ukraine.
