The cabinet approved the position of Bulgaria for the upcoming meeting of The council of the European Union on Agriculture and Fisheries to be held on 18 November 2024 in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium.
In the field of agriculture, the Council will discuss the situation in agricultural markets, in particular following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Disturbances continue to be observed on the egg market in our country as a result of a sharp increase in imports from Ukraine.
A serious increase was also observed in the import of Ukrainian bee honey in Bulgaria, which makes it difficult to sell local products. The significant quantities of Ukrainian honey entering the European market at very low prices are putting pressure on Bulgarian honey prices. The undertakings so far protective measures on the import of honey from Ukraine at the EU level
do not achieve the expected deterrent effect. Therefore, Bulgaria will present a document in the item “Other issues”, with which it makes a request to the European Commission for the imposition of protective measures according to Art. 4, paragraph 1 of the Regulation on Autonomous Trade Measures for Ukraine (ATM Regulation).
