How are Alasdair (26) and Vincent (23) from Spoorloos doing now? ‘The man from my memory became my father’

Boys from the street

Half-brothers Alexander (26) and Vincent (23) came to Holland at a young age with adoptive mother Hermine. She speaks fondly of her sons: ‘They have grown so much when you look at where they came from. They were the boys of the street; they only survived.”

Alexander and Vincent have vague memories of the first few years of life in Brazil. Their adoption papers state that their Brazilian mother traveled the streets with them. So it is very difficult to find him: several search efforts by the brothers and Hermine come to nothing. That’s why they change Not found in.

Successful DNA test

The brothers find the date of birth, picture and name of their mother: her name is Rosimeire. Spoorloos editors use this information for research. After an intensive search, they found her name in the National Immunization Program. The editors ask Rosimeire for a DNA test, and guess what? It is a game with Alasdair and Vincent.

The brothers, adoptive mother Hermine and presenter Sosha Duysker travel to Brazil. “I actually don’t remember my mother at all,” says Alasdair. “That’s kind of crazy, because I lived with her for six and a half years. But he understands: ‘As a small child you start blocking things, I think. Especially things that aren’t fun.’

Travel life

At the school where Rosimeire has shelter, food and lessons, Sosha meets her. Rosimeire talks about her life. After her father’s death, she ended up on the street.

Rosimeire: ‘I was looking for men to marry. Through him I was able to find a place again.’ Walking around alone was not an option: ‘That was too dangerous.’ And so Rosemary becomes pregnant several times. Her husband has loose hands, and the children have to carry him too. As a result, Child Protection is called in and Rosimeire abandons her six children.

Not angry

“I don’t feel guilty,” Rosimeire explains about the situation. ‘There are many people who let their children live on the streets. I didn’t do that. If I had left them to their fate, I would have felt guilty. But I did the best I could.”

Vincent agrees: ‘Why would I be angry with my mother if it wasn’t her choice to get rid of us? I think she’s very brave of her.’

Find a half-sister

During the research, the editors of the Not found also Vincent and Alexander’s half-sister: Talia. She and her son Kasio are delighted to meet Alasdair and Vincent and travel a great distance to see them.

As the sisters embrace, Kasio immediately jumps into Vincent’s arms. “Come on, my son,” said the proud uncle. “I also see something of myself in her,” Vincent says of Talia. “And I think that’s good to see.” Alasdair agrees: ‘We have a lot in common. We can now text and call too.’

A very happy meeting

The next morning, Vincent and Alexander go to Rosimeire’s mother’s school to meet her there. At the same time, Talia does Rosimeire’s hair and paints her nails.

Rosimeire is worried and emotional when her sons walk towards her. “My beautiful boy,” she sighs. Alasdair replied: “It’s good to meet you, I’m very happy.” The three walk away hand in hand.

But what happens after the registrations? Do the brothers keep in touch with their mother and sister?
