Manchester United thrashes Leicester 3-0 prior to the arrival of their new manager

Manchester. It’s Ruben Amorim’s turn.

The next Manchester United manager will take the reins of a team that shows signs of rebounding after beating Leicester 3-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, remaining unbeaten in four games in all competitions under the interim leadership of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Amorim will officially take over on Monday after serving his notice period at Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese arrives at a club that appears to be in a much more favorable position than when Erik ten Hag was sacked at the end of last month.

Much of that is down to Van Nistelrooy, a former Ten Hag assistant and an iconic striker for the club in his playing days. The Dutchman achieved three wins and a draw during his four-game interim. Sunday’s victory moved United closer to qualifying for the Champions League.

Making his 250th appearance for the club, Bruno Fernandes scored with a masterful curling shot from the edge of the area in the 17th minute at Old Trafford.

His shot in the 38th minute caused Victor Kristiansen to deflect the ball past Mads Hermansen, the Leicester goalkeeper, to double United’s lead before the break.

Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench and scored an even more brilliant goal in the 82nd minute than Fernandes’. The Argentine attacker nailed the ball into the top corner from outside the area.

Surprise third-placed Nottingham Forest moved four points clear of United after a 3-1 home defeat against Newcastle.

Forest went into the break with a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to a goal from Brazilian defender Murillo. But Swedish striker Alexander Isak, Brazilian midfielder Joelinton and winger Harvey Barnes completed Newcastle’s comeback.

Ipswich won for the first time in the league this season, beating Tottenham 2-1 away.

Arsenal and Chelsea draw 1-1 in the London derby

Arsenal, away at Stamford Bridge, tied a goal today with Chelsea in the biggest London derby in the Premier League.

Although Mikel Arteta’s Gunners looked better on the pitch, it was necessary to wait until the 60th minute for Gabriel Martinelli, after a through pass from Martin Ødegaard, to score the goal that gave them the momentary advantage.

In the 70th minute, an assist from Enzo Fernández was combined with an effective shot from Pedro Nieto and the Lions of Italian Enzo Maresca agreed to equalize with the visitors.

After that result, both teams accumulate 19 points, the product of five wins, four draws and two losses, and reached Nottingham Forest and Brighton in the standings.
