Because American women fear that after Donald Trump’s arrival at the White House on January 20, the Republican president may limit their sale. Aid Access, one of the largest suppliers of medicines for the termination of pregnancy, said it had received 10 thousand requests for the drug in the 24 hours following the tycoon’s victory, a number approximately 17 times greater than the 600 requests that the organization receives on average every day. And Just the Pill, a nonprofit that prescribes abortion drugs with telemedicine visits, said 22 of its 125 orders from Wednesday to Friday came from people who were not pregnant.
“Concrete threat to the right to abortion”
It’s normally “a rarity” for someone to ask for that kind of “advance protection,” said Julie Amaon, the group’s interim executive director. “People understand that the threat to abortion rights from the Trump administration is terrible and very real,” explained Brittany Fonteno, president of the National Abortion Federation, underlining that “people feel extremely, understandably concerned about their ability to get the care he needs.”
