Brescia. The Santa Giulia museum in Brescia hosts from 16 November 2024 to 23 February 2025 a special project aimed at making art more inclusive and participatory for the community. The “Ask Me” project, the result of collaboration between the Municipality of Brescia, the Brescia Museums Foundation, the Verziano Prison and the Prison and Territory Association OdV, is designed to involve prisoners as cultural mediators, offering them a new opportunity for social reintegration.
The exhibition “Khalid Albaih. The season of migration to the North”, inaugurated on 9 November 2024, is the setting for this project. The exhibition addresses issues related to human rights and migrationin line with the fifth stage of the Brescia Musei Foundation’s journey. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition guided by the inmateswho were trained by the Foundation’s Educational Services to interpret and explain the themes of contemporary art through a personal lens.
The project, which continues every weekend (Saturday and Sunday from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm), not only promotes the understanding of the work of the artist Khalid Albaih, but also supports the rehabilitation process of the inmates, enriching their experience with the opportunity to discuss issues of great social relevance with the public.
This third edition of “Ask Me” is the result of a constant commitment to create an open and participatory museumwhich involves the community and contributes to the personal and professional growth of those who live in situations of deprivation of freedom. Previous editions have featured female prisoners in other cultural projects, consolidating the mission of the Brescia Musei Foundation to promote a cultural model that integrates different social realities.
