[풋볼리스트] Reporter Yoon Hyo-yong = Gangwon FC‘s ‘Supernova’ Yang Min-hyuk won the Young Player Award for the fifth time in his career.
The Korea Professional Football League announced on the 13th (Korean time), “Gangwon FC striker Yang Min-hyuk won the K-League ‘Seven Select Young Player of the Month Award’ in October.” The ‘Seven Select Young Player of the Month Award’ is given every month to the ‘young player’ who performed the best in K League 1.
Candidate eligibility conditions include Korean nationality among K-League 1 players, age 23 or younger (born after 2001), and 3 years or less from the year of their first appearance in an official K-League game (debut after the 2022 season). Players who meet the above three conditions and participated in more than half of their team’s total game time in that month are considered candidates. Among these, the final winners are determined through discussion and voting by members of the Technical Study Group (TSG) under the Federation’s Technical Committee.
The October Young Player Award was evaluated on a total of 3 games from the 33rd to 35th rounds of K League 1 held in October. A total of 13 people were nominated, including Yang Min-hyuk (Gangwon), who was active during the period, Yoon Do-young (Daejeon), Lee Gyu-baek (Pohang), and Hwang Jae-won (Daegu).
Yang Min-hyuk scored 1 goal and 1 assist against Incheon in the 33rd round of K League 1, leading Gangwon to a 3-1 victory, and scored the winning goal against Gimcheon in the 35th round, contributing to Gangwon’s 1-0 victory. Additionally, Yang Min-hyuk was named to the best 11 in both rounds. In addition, Yang Min-hyuk played in the entire game a month ago in October, and during that period, Gangwon won three games in a row, and both the team and Yang Min-hyuk were on a winning streak.
Yang Min-hyuk, born in 2006, debuted in the K-League as a semi-professional contract player this season and has been performing well, starting in all games from the opening game, and converted to a full-time professional player last June. In particular, this season, Yang Min-hyuk broke all records as the youngest player in the club, including appearances, points, and attack points, and is currently ranked second in the team in attack points (11 goals, 6 assists), standing tall as a solid starting striker beyond a rising rookie.
As a result, Yang Min-hyuk won the Young Player of the Month Award for four consecutive months from April to July, and this time, he won the Young Player Award for the fifth time in his career. This is the record for the most awards since the Young Player Award was established.
Yang Min-hyuk, October’s ‘Seven Select Young Player of the Month’, will be presented with a trophy and prize money prior to the Gangwon vs. Pohang match held at Gangneung Stadium on the 23rd (Saturday).
Meanwhile, the naming title sponsor of the Young Player of the Month Award, ‘Seven Select’, is the private brand (PB) of 7-Eleven, a convenience store brand operated by Korea Seven. Seven Select launched the K League collaboration PB products ‘K League Reference Small Beef Rice Bowl’ and ‘Seven Select K League Popcorn’, which come with a K League Panini sticker, in July and are being sold at 7-Eleven stores nationwide.
