The heat pump sector in Belgium is going through a crisis, after experiencing a post-covid craze. While sales had jumped in 2022 and 2023, encouraged by the anticipation of entrepreneurs facing the risks of shortages, they fell sharply in 2024. In the first half, sales plummeted by 50%, going from 29,800 units sold to the same period in 2023 to only 16,200 this year. At the same time, sales of gas and oil boilers increased by 8%. “This brutal fall began in May-June 2023, first impacting countries like Poland and the Netherlands, before spreading to the Belgian market,” observes Patrick O, head of public affairs at Climafed, the federation Belgian Climate Technologies.
