The Spanish studio Tequila Works, responsible for games such as RiME, Gyl or, recently, Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, has announced a break.
We remember that in October, the studio went through a complicated situation resulting in layoffs and project cancellations.
In a statement, general manager Térence Mosca said he was “proud of what the team has achieved together”, but that “long market conditions” had forced the studio declare bankruptcy. Additionally, the founders of Tequila Works resigned and Mosca was named general manager.
“Since its founding in 2009, Tequila Works’ game development philosophy has always been to ‘create things with flavor,'” the statement said. “We are doing everything we can to support and guide our teams during this difficult time.”
Since 2022, Tequila Works has been working on several projects funded by the Chinese company Tencent. Apparently, this funding would be cancelled, leaving Tequila Works in an unstable financial position.
