Berlin. Older people who are sleepy and unmotivated during the day may be at higher risk of pre-dementia. This is shown by a current study.
In senior centers and living rooms across the country, many older adults begin their day with an all-too-familiar feeling: exhaustion despite a night in bed. Coffee cups are filled, curtains are drawn back, but tiredness remains a persistent companion. Some researchers have now discovered that older people who suffer from severe Daytime tiredness suffer and show little drive have an increased risk of suffering from a precursor to dementia.
The study of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York examined the influence of sleep quality on the development of motor-cognitive risk syndrome (MCR), a precursor to dementia, over two and a half years. The results, published in the scientific journal “Neurology“, suggest that excessive daytime sleepiness and lack of enthusiasm in particular increase the risk of MCR.
