UI Postpones Graduation of Bahlil Lahadalia Doctoral Program

University of Indonesia (UI) apologized and canceled the doctorate graduation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources as well as the General Chairman of Golkar Bahlil Lahadalia. This statement was issued by UI Board of Trustees (MWA) Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, Wednesday (13/11) regarding Bahlil’s degree from the UI School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG).

“Considering the measures taken by UI, the graduation of BL (Bahlil Lahadalia) students of the SKSG Doctoral Program (S3) has been postponed, following the Chancellor’s Regulation No. 26 of 2022, it will follow a decision the ethics test. “, said the press release signed by Yahya.

According to Yahya, the decision on Bahlil was taken at the Organ 4 (four) Coordination Meeting of UI, which is a form of responsibility and commitment of UI to continue developing academic management that is better, transparent and based on justice. UI also apologized to the public and acknowledged these shortcomings.

“The University of Indonesia apologizes to the public for the problems related to BL, students of the Doctoral Program of the School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG) (S3). UI acknowledges that this problem, among other things, stems from UI’s own shortcomings, and is taking steps to properly overcome it from an academic and ethical perspective,” Yahya wrote.

UI says it conducted a thorough evaluation of the management of the Doctoral Program (S3) at SKSG as a guarantee to maintain academic quality and integrity.

The Study Team for the Study of the Implementation of the Three Dharmas of Higher Education, which includes elements from the Academic Senate and the Council of Professors, has conducted a study study on the implementation of the Doctoral Program (S3) at SKSG which ‘ include a complete student. admission requirements, the counseling process, publications, graduation requirements and the implementation of exams.

Moratorium on PhD students

Based on this, UI decided to temporarily suspend (moratorium) admission of new students to the SKSG Doctoral Program (S3) until a complete review of the management and academic processes of the program to complete. This step was taken with full commitment to ensure that all educational processes within UI run according to relevant regulations.

As part of this effort, in accordance with its duties and responsibilities, the UI Professors Council (DGB) will hold an ethics hearing regarding possible violations involved in the process of supervising Doctoral Program students (S3 ) at SKSG. This step was taken to ensure that education at UI is conducted professionally and free from conflicts of interest.
