Porticoes, Pollica, New York: It’s a three-part journey to get to that Mediterranean diet no longer just as a diet, but as Development model for the regions to present. This is the goal of the Global summit „Mediterranean Diet feeds the future – A journey on fertility, longevity, and prosperity“, der vom November 14th to 17th in the municipalities of Portici and Pollica (and on November 21st and 22nd in New York). The event was conceived to celebrate the food and lifestyle theorized by American scientist Ancel Keys, but also to celebrate the anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of the Mediterranean diet as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
On the horizon are four days dedicated to scientific advances and on-the-ground case studies for global well-being. “As we look forward to an acceleration in the judicial investigation of the murder of Angelo Vassallo, we continue Pollica continues to implement the development vision for the area that we shared with him. In the coming days, we will continue our commitment to enhancing the Mediterranean diet, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2010, just three months after his death, thanks also to his tireless work. We will do this through an international moment of cultural deepening, such as the World Summit on the Mediterranean Diet, which reaches the world from the heart of our community,” emphasizes the Mayor of Pollica, Stefano Pisani.
The program
It starts on Thursday, November 14th at 3:30 p.m. in Portici. On Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II, work begins. First “Mediterranean Diet: A Model for Sustainability and Health in Global Agricultural Policy”, then “Mediterranean Diet and Supply Chains: Preserving Tradition for a Sustainable Future”.
The following day, Friday November 15th, in Portici the theme will be: “Mediterranean diet as a link between environment and health”. On Saturday November 16th we move to Pollica, to the Center for Mediterranean Diet Paideia Campus. The focus is on the topic: “Mediterranean diet. The lifestyle worth inheriting“. Finally, on Sunday November 17th at 11 a.m. at the Castle of the Princes Capano in Pollica, “Living Cultural Heritage as a Motor for Sustainable Development: An Integrated Model for the Enhancement of Local Communities” will be discussed.
The four-day event also includes moments of… Entertainment, Music and Culture. In Acciaroli, on the evening of Friday November 15th, will be the performances of Fabiana Martone, the voice of the Neapolitan group Nu Genea, and afterwards Claraan actress and singer who is very well known among young audiences.
The results of the summit in New York will be held on November 21st and 22nd United Nations Headquarters presented, in a conference organized in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations and attended by several world leaders, in order to initiate a global dialogue on sustainable food and environmental policies.
