There are hardly any trains to and from the Randstad due to a morning strike at ProRail

Utrecht CS

NOS newstoday, 03:14

In large parts of North Holland and on routes in South Holland, Utrecht and Flevoland, NS trains almost never run between 6am and 9am due to declare a strike of ProRail employees. They will stop work at the traffic control centers in Amsterdam and Alkmaar.

“The impact of this strike is greater than the strike area,” said the NS on a railway map shows where little or no train traffic is possible this morning.

Access is limited at Schiphol

NS trains do not run until 9am in almost all of North Holland. The railway company advises passengers wishing to go to Schiphol to arrange alternative transport. “The Schiphol Airport station has very limited access by train.”

There are also no trains between Leiden, Schiphol and Haarlem. This will affect traffic elsewhere in the country. For example, the NS warns passengers that there are fewer trains running between Utrecht and Arnhem, Utrecht and Eindhoven and Rotterdam and Leiden.

The timetable will start after 9am, but as that takes time, trains may be canceled or delayed for the rest of the morning.

Conversations stopped

ProRail workers are on strike as they want a 13 per cent pay rise. According to the FNV trade union, this increase is necessary because the previous collective labor agreement was terminated just before the high rate of inflation.

ProRail refuses to meet that requirement and calls it “impractical”. The company offered a pay increase of up to 8 percent during the negotiations. The trade union CNV agreed to that last offer.

ProRail workers will stop work again on Friday. This takes place in the regions of Utrecht and Amersfoort.
