After a change in the rules of Swiss Ice Skating, the season for Emiliy Metzler is more difficult than before. She only starts in three of the twelve Swiss Cup competitions, where she gets a qualification for the Swiss competition. The reason for this is the new regulations, which lead to a significantly higher number of registrations in the new but limited categories. In the new U14 category, up to 50 runners are allowed to compete. This is why Emily Metzler could not take part in the Montalin Cup in Chur in October – there were already too many registrations.
The jury wasn’t quite sure
Emily Metzler started the new season this weekend at the Eulach Winterthur Cup. She wanted to impress the judges with a new short program and the most difficult jump combination of Doppellutz-Doppeltoeloop and double flip. Although she didn’t fall, she couldn’t do it because the jumps weren’t executed properly. The strengths of the young ice skater are in pirouettes and presentation.
Her performance was very precise and she delighted fans, coaches and competitors. But this time the quick efforts in various positions were not rewarded. So Emily Metzler started the free skate on Sunday under pressure and she couldn’t keep up her performance there either. Small mistakes and insecurities crept in and she finished the competition with 63.01 points. That is a good 1.5 points less than their best performance last season.
The young woman from Widnau still has two qualifying competitions for the Swiss championship ahead of her. These take place in St. Gallen and Lucerne in late November and early December. In mid-March, Emily Metzler will represent the canton of St. Gallen again at the Arge-Alp international competition in Lombardy.
