David Martínez Aceves is a doctor from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) who at 26 years old decided to combine two of his great passions: medicine and Mixed Martial Arts.
Trained in Social Security, he worked between 2019 and 2021 as an undergraduate internal physician at the Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 68, in Tulpetlac, State of Mexico, and treated patients with Covid-19; However, despite being on the front line of fire in the pandemic, he took time to train so as not to give up his dream of becoming professional fighter
“I came home from duty, I ate something, sometimes I hadn’t slept or I was tired; however, “My parents and my sister helped me a lot to be able to continue training.”he reported in a note published by the Government of Mexico website.
“All my life I have played sports. In sports there are many injuries, people who get into accidents. Sometimes there is not a doctor on hand at the time to help, I would see those accidents and I wanted to be the person who extended a hand to the injured person. From there this seed was born to be able to be a doctor,” he added.
Martínez Aceves is currently preparing in two gyms in CDMX and the State of Mexico, and is preparing his debut in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) en 2025, the largest Mixed Martial Arts company, with which he already signed a contract.
“I have been told that they are very different professions; however, I see that it is almost the same, that have a lot similaritymore than it seems, because both the fighters and Doctors are extraordinary people, super humans and gladiators.
“Not everyone can endure work sessions of 25, 30 or more hours and continue standing, Serving people, just like in fighting, not many people can keep throwing punches or holding on.”
Although at the moment he is focused on his sports preparation and put a pause on medicine, David Martínez said that his goal is to resume his activities as a doctor in the future.
“I have always imagined already a little older working at the IMSSmaybe in some specialty providing first-level care, to me I really like giving consultations, I help people”, he noted.
David Martínez will make his UFC debut next year alongside his sister Melissawhich will make them the first pair of brothers in the UFC under the names of ‘Black Spartan’ and ‘Super Mely’.
